Action - Not Party Politics!

                                         Listening to local people ...

Above: Husband and wife councillor team, Rebecca Hopfensperger (Beccy) and Paul Hopfensperger (Hoffy).

Both Beccy and Paul have been Suffolk county councillors since 2005 representing their respective divisions on Suffolk County Council. They were both Bury St Edmunds town councillors before becoming county councillors.

In Brief

Beccy and Paul met at the Newmarket races in June 1995 and were married in Bury St Edmunds in August 1997.  Paul has lived in Bury St Edmunds for all of his life, and Beccy is from Stanningfield just outside of Bury.

They live and work in Risbygate Street just off the town centre.

Beccy grew up in Stanningfield, just outside of Bury St Edmunds, where her family owned a farm.  Following her marriage to Paul in 1997 she moved into Bury St Edmunds town centre where she now runs a small local business providing therapeutic care and nutritional advice with her Husband.  She attended Hardwick Middle School and King Edwards V1 Upper School both in Bury St Edmunds.

In April 2004 Rebecca became a Bury St Edmunds Town Councillor and ended her year in office in 2007 as the Mayor of Bury St Edmunds.  Since 2005 she has had the honour of being a Suffolk County Councillor and holds the positions of Assistant Portfolio Holder for Children, Schools and Young People, Chairman of the Corporate Parenting Board, Corporate Health And Safety Board and Educational Transport Appeals Committee and is also a member of the West Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership.

Paul was a Bury St Edmunds Town Councillor from June 2003 until September 2006, was the Deputy Mayor of Bury St Edmunds for 2005 - 2006 and has been a Suffolk County Councillor since May 2005. He has been the Vice Chairman of Roads and Transport and Chairman of the Shared-Space Working Party during his term of office.

Personal Message from Beccy:-

Growing up in a small village has led to an awareness of rural issues, I continue to work hard for the people in these communities, ensuring that the residents of Thingoe North have a strong voice at County Council level.  I do my very best to support all villages in my division, helping them remain safe and thriving communities without spoiling their unique qualities”.

Personal Message from Paul:-

Being a ‘Bury boy ’ and having lived and worked in Bury St Edmunds all of my life, I fully appreciate the views and concerns that local residents and traders have. I believe it is our duty as councillors to listen to and represent those views to the best of our ability on behalf of the people who elected us.  Being an Independent Councillor I am free from party politics and am able, and indeed will, always be here to represent your views, and try to do what is best for Bury St Edmunds and it’s residents” .
